1) Polyps are painful no matter where they are (except in the colon, where they don't press on any nerves)
2) A tentacle of appropriate size would be hardly noticed by the cavity, and if pressing on the walls of it, they'll do no worse than causing the knife headache (so called because you feel as though someone has wedged a knife in your skull), which is a small price to pay for tentacle rape.
